Notice

We are currently undergoing site maintenance due to new exciting project updates - most notably our new affiliation with the Al Muntazir School here in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. If you are a student attending Al Muntazir, then these site changes will apply to you as we are developing an interactive online system for both you and the students at the United Nations International School. This system will provide a communication link between both schools where you can say a little about yourself, share you thoughts on issues, manage your own personal profile, upload files etc.

These site updates are currently in developement and are scheduled to be released publicly throughout the next week. Please check back soon!

Sincerely,
The Tanzania Sanitation Project

Trip to Tanzania
I am honored to say that the members will be traveling to Tanzania in exactly one week! We will be leaving to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on March 20th and will be staying for about two and a half weeks. There, we plan to research the selected village and work with the community, The TAEES, Al-Muntazir School and WAMA Foundation to promote awareness of the concerning issue regarding waste management and to, together, devise an appropriate and sustainable waste management solution.

However, we have yet to raise the sufficient amount of funds necessary for the first component of the project strategic plan: the research and assessment of the waste situation of the selected village. This will be achieved through data collection, analysis, reporting and reviewing, and will allow us to have a better understanding of what we’re dealing with in. Furthermore, the research will enable us to gain hard data on the situation, and thus to determine the most appropriate waste management solution for the particular Tanzanian village. Also, with this information and research, we will be better prepared to help the community understand what they are facing.

Researching the village is one of the most essential components for the project, and we are working very hard to try to raise the necessary funds. However, we can't do this alone, and we need your help. Any donation to the project would bring us a substantial step closer to reaching our goal and achieving our immense but possible endeavor. Support and donations are essential in ensuring the triumph and growth of our endeavor, and will help us immensely in obtaining the necessary funds for the project.

If you would like to make a donation, click on the link 'Donate' on the left hand side. Any contributions to the project will be highly valued by not only the project personnel, but by the Tanzanian community and government.

Trip Delay
Due to various technical issues, the trip to Tanzania to execute component 1 and 2 of our strategic plan has been postponed from August to December. The delay will give the project team additional time to prepare for the trip and to finalize the remaining details. We look forward to the trip and will be posting updates regularly.

The Tanzania Sanitation Project Speaks at the UN
On April 9th, 2008, the members of the TSP attended the event of The Occasion of Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness for the Women of Tanzania and the Recognition of the Goodwill Ambassador of WAMA-Tanzania, Ms. Maria Kerins. The event took place in the Delegates Dining Room at the UN and was in honor Ms. Kerins (the administrator of the TSP) for her tireless efforts in assisting and supporting WAMA-Tanzania, more specifically her work with breast cancer.

During the event, the president of TSP, Katie Simon, and Maya Kurien, Head of Fundraising for TSP, made a speech in front of the audience regarding our admiration for Ms. Kerin's efforts in addition to her valued contributions the United Nations School.

Furthermore, we spoke about The Tanzania Sanitation Project and our objectives, and are proud to say that we received great, positive feedback from the audience! We were honored to have the pleasure of meeting Mama Selma Kikwete, First Lady of Tanzania, who is more than enthusiastic with the project and invited us to Tanzania this August to execute our pilot project. Equally remarkable was meeting Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations, Mr. Mahiga, who keenly offered unlimited assistance and contributions to the project!

We would like to thank everyone at the ceremony for their immensely appreciated enthusiasm and support with the project and mostly, Ms. Kerins for providing us with the opportunity of being a part of such a challenging and rewarding project, and for all her valuable contributions to not only the school, but the country of Tanzania.

Welcome to Tanzania Sanitation
If you are reading this, welcome. If you are new to The Tanzania Sanitation Project and/or its concept - it's a great place to start. Here's some brief information about us.

The Tanzania Sanitation Project is a non-profit mission aiming for a healthier, stronger, greener future for Tanzania. The project was established and is currently operated by several 10th grade students and faculty of the United Nations International School.

Proper waste management is a necessity for today's civilization in order to maintain a healthy, sanitary life, yet countless third-world countries are deprived of this need. The improper management of wastes triggers severe environmental and health problems, with the consequences of poor waste management on human health and the environment becoming more noticeable each day. Our project aims to implement a waste management system in Tanzania, one country where improper waste management uncontrollably affects and burdens the population's daily lives.

This information can be found on our About page here.

We've recently implemented a discussion forum where you can give us your input one various aspects of the project as well as discuss our current plans of action. Becoming a member is extremely simple and completely free (because we are a non-profit organization), click here and follow the registration steps.

If you have any general questions or suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
